130-Voice Chorus Comes to St. James Church in La Jolla

La Jolla, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2008) ) The 130-voice La Jolla Symphony Chorus (LJSC) brings its stunning Sacred Voices concert of choral masterworks to St. James By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in La Jolla on Sunday, May 31 at 4:00 p.m. The concert -- titled The Motet Project – offers a sumptuous program of rare and dramatic motets that spans sacred choral music from the Renaissance to the 20th century.

“Of all the musical forms, the motet is perhaps the most consistent barometer of musical styles in over 500 years of sacred choral music history,” says LJSC Choral Director David Chase.

Focusing on European composers whose genius added new dimensions to motet idiom in successive eras, Maestro Chase selected five works for the program. Works include Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Laetatus sum for triple chorus, Bach’s double-chorus motet, Singet dem Herrn, and Swedish composer Bengt Hambraeus’s Motetum Archangeli Michaelis. The concert is approximately 90 minutes long and performed without intermission.

St. James By-the-Sea is located at 743 Prospect Street, La Jolla. Advance tickets are available through the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus ticket office for $15 general admission, $12 for seniors (65+), and $8 for youth (under 18). Tickets will also be available at the door. All tickets are open seating. To reserve tickets in advance, please call 858-534-4637.
